On behalf of the our Secretariat, Directors and conference staff, it is my distinct pleasure to invite you to the eight annual session of the Secondary School Interactive Crisis Simulation (SSICsim) hosted at the University of Toronto (UofT)!  Our upcoming conference is set to be held from November 9-10, 2018.

Founded in May 2011, SSICsim is an annual conference hosted by University of Toronto students for high school level delegates that offers an innovative and unprecedented conference experience. SSICsim is unique as it solely operates Model United Nations (MUN) style “crisis committees” on a variety of themes including those of a historical, fictional and contemporary nature. Unlike traditional MUN committees, SSICsim delegates are not only required to debate issues from a static and distinct perspective, but rather they are challenged to “think outside of the box” by responding, adapting, and reacting to evolving scenarios that demonstrate real time crisis situations. Completing the conference experience are keynote addresses from distinguished speakers, a range of innovative social events, and an opportunity to experience the historic University of Toronto St. George campus.

As the premier MUN crisis conference in Ontario, SSICsim hosts high school students and faculty from across the province. I believe that SSICsim offers high school students an opportunity to: think critically about pressing global issues and our ever changing society; stretch their imaginations to address issues through creative solutions; network with university students; and, develop leadership skills such as public speaking, cooperation, debating and professionalism. Additionally, our small committee sizes provide our delegates with a more intimate and focused conference experience. Furthermore, I believe that it is experiences, like those offered by SSICsim, that work to shape high school students to be globally aware as they become our future leaders.

I look forward to meeting all of the delegates and teacher advisers at the conference! Should you have any questions feel free to get in touch with us.

Best regards,

Roaa Shoukry
