COURT OF NERO

SINGLE CRISIS

Following the civil wars of the late republic, the Roman Republic was dissolved in all but name as the first Emperor, Augustus, established the Principate. With this act, he ushered in a new golden age for Rome, the so-called Pax Romana, and for decades his Julio-Claudian dynasty has ruled in an unbroken succession.

The latest of these Emperors, Claudius, governed well and through this honoured his predecessors. Yet with his death under suspicious circumstances in 54 AD, the eyes of the Roman Empire now look to the next of his line, Emperor Nero of only sixteen years of age.

As the members of this untried and untested Emperor’s court, you must guide the Empire forward, all while grappling with the ambitions and plans of both the young Nero and the other members of his august court.

All the while you must ask yourselves, what makes a good ruler? And who, truly, is deserving of the throne?
