Committee Awards

Committee awards at SSICsim recognize students who succeed in the aspects of participating in a crisis committee. These delegates are ones who make good use of personal directives; pose many substantive action directives; articulate and present clear ideas in moderated caucus; ensure they embody the policies of their character/country; work collaboratively with others in unmoderated caucus; present innovative ideas to tackle pressing issues and crises; and respond to crises quickly and effectively.

Please note that each of the following awards are presented in all committees, and that Committee Directors are limited to one recipient per award.

  • This award is presented to a delegate who has succeeded in every aspect of participating in the crisis committee. Among other things, this delegate is someone who: goes above and beyond to participate in moderated and unmoderated debate; ensures they embody the policies of their character/country throughout the committee; works collaboratively to create innovative solutions to the main issues at hand; effectively and efficiently deals with the crises presented to the committee; and utilizes action and personal directives well to ensure their advancement in the committee.

  • This award recognizes the progress and achievement of a novice delegate who stands out while participating in the crisis committee, and embodies many of the characteristics of a good delegate. SSICsim is a conference that is very welcoming to novice delegates, and as such we place a high importance on their enjoyment at success during our conference. Upon registering for the conference, delegates will note whether they are novice or experienced with Model UN.

Committee Directors are given a list of each delegate’s experience levels at the start of the conference to aid these delegates and ensure they everyone has a positive experience. This list will also be used to monitor their progress in the committee. Please note that if the Committee Director selects a novice delegate for any of the other committee awards, the Best Novice Delegate Award will be given to another novice delegate.

Conference Awards

Group delegations who register for SSICsim will be eligible to receive an award for Best Group Delegation based on the performances of its delegates in our crisis committees.

Once committee awards are decided, each delegation will receive a score, based on how many awards their delegates win, to determine the winner of the overall conference awards. The delegation with the highest score proportional to their size will be the recipient of this award (NOTE: The delegation winning best overall is automatically disqualified from the other two awards). The scoring system is as follows:

  • Best delegate (3 points)

  • Outstanding delegate (2 points)

  • Honourable Mention (1 point)

  • Best Novice Delegate (1 point)

  • This award is presented to the delegation with the highest point total. They will receive a plaque with an additional prize to be announced at the conference.

  • This award is presented to a large delegation with the highest point total in that group proportional to their size. They will receive a plaque with an additional prize to be announced at the conference.

  • This award is presented to a small delegation with the highest point total in that group proportional to their size. They will receive a plaque with an additional prize to be announced at the conference.
